You have to do it in very small doses, preferably in dialogue. And cut it to the bone.

What used to amaze me was that JK Rowling felt it necessary to recap - in almost all her books - stuff such as 'but Harry was no ordinary boy...' - when surely she could assume that most of the known universe knew it already.Katherine Langrishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12529700103932422873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-701894736280253278.post-6657040355669412122009-08-18T08:02:06.505+01:002009-08-18T08:02:06.505+01:00Yes, great post. (I had a toddler who was obsessed with the film.) Like the Toy Stories, Nemo has so much for a writer to study and learn. Plus Stanton makes a great Crush! I took one character from a previous book, gave them an interest/passion (one of my own) and made a story for them based around that passion. Eg in Rosie, my first book, I mention briefly her best mate Allie. I have given Allie a passion about helping the environment and made a story out of that, similar to Rosie. The same for the one I'm writing now. It's all about Georgina, the bully in Rosie. I quite like writing series of books at the moment.Julie Dayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10370540030678282595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-701894736280253278.post-71464150490885437972009-08-24T15:10:13.145+01:002009-08-24T15:10:13.145+01:00Thanks for this. Now I am off to find the audio commentaries. I thought Wall-E was brilliant.kathleen dueyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01176852638727278256noreply@blogger.com
