You don't necessarily have to reference the backstory in the text but you need to know it and the trait can hint at it e.g. Ms Thorn is all about complience and order. She has a witchwood leg and she says 'I never make mistakes,' but she has a witchwood leg so she has made a mistake. I like to leave a gap like that for the reader. Hope that makes sense.Maureen Lynashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16855138050232488108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-701894736280253278.post-89068757715816570252017-07-08T09:52:45.426+01:002017-07-08T09:52:45.426+01:00Great advice and I totally agree. I was wondering whether there's time to go into the back story of people the reader meets only once. And then I realised that yes, there is. There has to be, because their character traits will influence the action. I suppose you just have to be deft about fitting those traits into the story. Sorry to go on for so long - but this was a REALLY helpful piece. Thank you.Nick Garlicknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-701894736280253278.post-59684486247739039612017-07-07T13:37:16.909+01:002017-07-07T13:37:16.909+01:00Brilliant! I totally agree that the hero focus in writing courses and books can neglect the characters who build the world.Candy Gourlayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07802791643303335762noreply@blogger.com
