The Christmas display from George's bookshop, Tales on Moon Lane
Happy Christmas everyone. I would love to see more of the following next year...

1 New fantastic stand-alone novels for the 9-12 age group.

2 More highly illustrated fiction for 6+ along the lines of Chris Riddell's 'Ottoline' and Tamara Macfarlane's 'Amazing Esme'.

3 A fantastic original series for teens that is not dystopian adventure or paranormal romance.

4 More beautiful re-issues of classic novels - publishers please keep these stunning gift edition hardbacks coming!

My favourite book for Christmas is 'The Christmas Mystery' by Jostein Gaarder...treat it like an advent calendar and read a chapter a night until Christmas.

  1. What a delightful list! Let's hope so many of these wishes come true as I know many authors it would please.

  3. I hope there's going to be a rise in illustrated books. I almost bought Patrick Ness's A Monster Calls for the kindle until I saw the hardback. Which I am waiting impatiently for, as my sister has bought it for me for Christmas. More work for the illustrators!

  4. A MOnster Calls is the most beautiful book - words and pictures - so worth having an actual copy to stroke.

  7. Hear hear to more works for illustrators!
Funny how many have forgotten that adults in their millions used to read illustrated books - Dickens by the fireside, Jules Verne and all. And now there's Chris Riddell and others like Shaun Tan and Brian Selznick reminding publishers that we like 'reading' pictures in books too - an ongoing pleasure, like looking at shop windows like yours!

  8. @Bridget I keep a copy of Shaun Tan's The Bird King and Other Sketches by my bed, just because it's nice to look and think and dream.
